Classroom Vs Virtual Classes

Classroom Vs Virtual Classes
05-Apr

If you are reading this right now then you are likely looking for an answer to the above.

At Pomegranate HQ, we often get asked if we offer online language learning as well as classroom learning and which of the two we recommend for that individual.

What we like to point out is that online learning is more of a passive way of learning, we prefer to use virtual classes where a teacher logs online and is able to directly communicate with his/her the student(s) during the lesson.

We offer these types of virtual classes as our team of experts understand that not everyone has the time, freedom or finances to attend live language lessons in person with a qualified teacher at our language institute in Dubai.

So which is better?

Classroom teaching or a virtual class?

Which should you choose?

Well let’s review both methods right now…

Teachers

The bottom line is that every one of us learns at a different pace.

The main benefit that stands way above the rest is that with learning directly from a teacher in a language institute you can learn a language at your own speed.

A teacher can deliver information and interact with their learners in real-time.

Teachers can personally monitor each student’s development and manage the classroom environment by grouping individuals and move the learners around so that everyone is benefiting, ensure that each learner receives education and avoids missing anyone out of receiving the education they need.

The method of live learning from a teacher increases engagement while learner’s can receive feedback and advice to help further their development.

Teachers can hold classes at different locations, at a restaurant, the park, your office or a coffee shop. It all depends on the creativity of the teacher combined with the flexibility of the respective students, as learning can happen anywhere where interactive communication is encouraged! Our teachers tailor-make the classes to match the precise requirements of our Pom-students.

Teachers are able to adapt the delivery of information so that all students receive the right information at the right time enhancing confidence and development along the way.

However, it should be noted that teachers and language institutes are not an ideal learning solution for all. In this busy world, not everyone has the availability or time to travel to a language learning institute to learn a new language.

Still not convinced?

According to a research study in the US of 1,000 students, 78% still believe it is easier to learn in a classroom environment.

Virtual Classes

When we think of the term ‘Virtual Classes’ the first thing that may spring to our mind are online quizzes and watching hours of video. And this is still the case for most subjects being taught.

However…

What has been proven to work extremely well is live virtual classes where a teacher is present and conducting the lesson from a remote location.

Virtual classes offer convenience and flexibility as they can be conducted anywhere at anytime that is convenient for both the students and the teacher(s).

This makes it a good solution for busy working families and individuals who don’t have the time to travel and take time out of their busy day-to-day lives.

This method of learning is also of benefit to learners who are not so self-sufficient or those who are shy to speak out in a classroom environment.

Live virtual classes can be considered to be similar to traditional face-to-face lessons as a teacher can present the information and also interact with their students via text on screen almost on a one-to-one basis.

Anyone who has a disability, which prevents them from being able to attend a live classroom environment are at no disadvantage with virtual learning.

The main disadvantage, which causes virtual classes to fall short compared to traditional learning from a teacher in a classroom, is the lack of visual feedback.

Let me go into a little more detail…

When the teacher is behind a screen they are unable to read their students reactions and body language therefore may be unaware that someone is struggling with a particular element of the lesson.

As I mentioned at the start of this post, virtual classes are very much a passive method of learning and for this reason is not ideal for many individuals who need personal interaction in their learning.

Ok so which is the best option for you?

As you can clearly see from the above, there are benefits to both virtual classes and learning directly with a teacher.

Whilst there are distinctions between both virtual classes and learning with a teacher in a classroom environment, they can be both used to accomplish the same goals.

Whichever one you decide to use really depends on the logistics of delivering the education as much as the subject being taught.
